- Catch me if you can
Two thieves who were terrorizing commuters in Chicago by stealing car stereos from a park-and-ride lot sealed their fate in October when they attempted to break into a surveillance minivan. According to the Associated Press, an undercover police officer for the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District watched the men as they made their way through the lot one day, looking in the windows of parked cars and pulling on door handles. When they got to the van, they slid open the side door, and the officer jumped out with his gun drawn. “We’ve been successful in setting up surveillance and arresting people for car theft,” Robert Byrd told reporters. “But I don’t think we have ever had them come into our car.”
- The ability to work well with others is highly overrated
Lake Forest (Calif.) Councilwoman Kathryn McCullough sought a restraining order against fellow Councilman Peter Herzog just before the Nov. 5 election. According to The Los Angeles Times, McCullough claimed Herzog had verbally and physically assaulted her several times since July. “This is out of left field,” Herzog told the newspaper. “We’ve had disagreements like most elected officials, but nothing leading to these absurd kind of incidents.” Both were reelected in November.
