The City of Akron, OH, has selected Motorola’s Customer Service Request (CSR) system to automate and enhance service delivery citywide and across departments, as well as call-center operations. The CSR 3-1-1 system will allow city personnel to handle an annual average of 400,000 calls for non-emergency service requests and information.

“The CSR system will enable us to achieve our vision of providing citizens quicker access to the city’s services 24 hours a day throughout the year,” says Akron Mayor Donald Plusquellic. “This system is the key to our ongoing efforts to deliver to our citizens the services they need exactly when they need them.”

American Science and Engineering, Inc. (AS&E) announced that the U.S. Attorneys’ Office has ordered 17 Model 66Z parcel X-ray inspection systems, valued in excess of $1 million, for deployment in 13 states. The systems utilize AS&E’s Z Backscatter x-ray technology, in combination with traditional transmission x-ray, to highlight potentially dangerous materials and items inside packages and baggage.

The City of Milwaukee, WI, has awarded a $6.8 million contract to CompuDyne Corp., to provide an integrated Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management System (RMS) for the Milwaukee Police Department.

The Tiburon system includes a communications component that provides mobile mapping for supervisors, automated vehicle location, and field reporting for all police units. When a call for service is dispatched from the communications center to a supervisory unit, an icon appears on the mobile map highlighting the location of the incident, surrounding incidents, and police units in the area. Devices installed in the units track the exact location of the vehicle and assist in determining the shortest route to the incident.

The Texas Building and Procurement Commission (TBPC) has awarded Orbis Online, Inc. a five-year contract to conduct online reverse auctions for all state agencies and other state entities. TBPC is the centralized procurement agency for the state. As such, it establishes the procurement procedures to be followed by state buying entities including cities, school districts, head start programs, and more. The contract currently includes about 1,500 buying groups.

Municipal Software Corp. announced that Bulloch County (GA) purchased CityView Enterprise in order to automate its permitting, planning, and code enforcement activities. The automation software converts paper systems and business processes into a computerized system.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded a $230 million, seven-year contract to IBM for a wide range of managed infrastructure services.

The work will be delivered as part of the EPA’s Information Technology Solutions task order contract under the GSA Millennia contract, awarded by the General Services Administration (GSA) Federal Technology Service, Federal Systems Integration and Management (FEDSIM) Center.

IBM will deliver services through a subcontract with DynCorp, the Millennia prime contractor for the Information Technology Solutions project. IBM will be responsible for managing key components of the EPA’s computing infrastructure, including its internal and external Web sites as well as a data center, high-performance computing, geographic information systems, and e-mail operations. In addition, IBM will provide technical training through the EPA’s IT Training Institute.

Internet Security Systems, Inc., a provider of intrusion protection solutions, announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has selected the company for comprehensive security protection across 12 divisions of the department. The selection results from a GSA task order award to Internet Security Systems’ partner, Northrop Grumman Information Technology (IT).

FileNET Corp., a provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions, announced that California State University at Fullerton (CSUF) has implemented FileNET ECM products to automate and streamline core business processes, including human resources leave accounting and institution-wide contracts processing. CSUF, with branch campuses in Garden Grove and El Toro, CA, serves 30,000 students.
