Planning and Development Director
Santa Barbara County, population 409,000, is seeking a new Planning and Development Director. The Planning and Development Department has a budget of $23 million, and a staff of 173. Responsibilities span comprehensive planning, development review, zoning administration, building and safety, and oil industry regulation within this county of 2,700 square miles including 50 miles of coastline. Candidates should have a strong background in managerial leadership and organizational development, along with experience that covers the spectrum of urban, agricultural, and industrial planning issues. Candidates should be experienced in working with a diverse group of constituencies with the potential of conflicting viewpoints and agendas. Additionally, candidates should have knowledge or experience in working with the CEQA, and California Coastal Regulations. Education should include a bachelorÕs degree in planning, urban geography, political science, or other quantitative educational program. Possession of an advanced degree is a plus. Candidates should have ten years experience in progressively responsible management positions.
