Utilities Director

The City of Glendale has a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic and innovative Utilities Director. This director level position reports to the Deputy City Manager of Public Works, and is responsible for managing and supervising all aspects of the City Utilities Department including planning, organizing, staffing, coordinating, reviewing and budgeting for department services. The ideal candidate is a decisive, results-oriented leader with a strong customer service orientation.
The Utilities Director reports to the Deputy City Manager Ð Public Works and is responsible for leading the Department in the operations of the water, wastewater, and water reclamation utilities of the City. The DepartmentÕs resources include a staff of 132, an operations budget of $23 million, and a capital improvement budget of $36 million.
The Utilities Department currently provides water, wastewater, and water reclamation services to the CityÕs 215,000 residents.
Water Services include full treatment and distribution through two treatment plants with a combined capacity of 61 MGD and eight wells. Raw water is obtained through the Salt River Project (SRPO), Central Arizona Project (CAP), and well water.
Wastewater is collected by the City and treated at a regional facility operated by the City of Phoenix, but funded by several cities.
Water Reclamation facilities include two plants with a current capacity of approximately 9.0 MGD. This capacity will increase to 12 MGD through future plant expansions.
REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires a BachelorÕs Degree in Environmental Sciences, Sanitary or Civil Engineering, or related field with five years administrative experience in water and wastewater utilities preferably in the public sector including three years of management experience.
