Smokers and civil libertarians are rejoicing over Montgomery County, Md., Executive Douglas Duncan’s veto of legislation that would have regulated smoking in people’s homes. The county proposed $750 fines for people who smoked in their own homes if the smoke crossed property lines and offended neighbors. According to the Washington Post, the proposal drew worldwide attention and public scorn, prompting Duncan to reverse course.
