Arlington, Texas, is replacing its 31-siren severe weather-warning system with 46 new sirens. The new sirens will increase the warning system coverage from 75 percent to 98 percent of the city. The $700,000 system will be installed by June. Local officials decided to upgrade the system after 11 sirens failed to sound during a series of tornadoes that destroyed thousands of homes and businesses last year in southeast Arlington and Grand Prairie.
