And the winner is …

The Leesburg, Va., Water Pollution Control Division recently earned an Environmentally Responsible Business Award from the Leesburg Environmental Advisory Commission. The division, part of the town’s Utilities Department, was recognized for recycling byproducts as fertilizer, using ultrasonic cleaners instead of chemicals, recycling 23 different materials, consistently exceeding regulatory requirements and conserving energy.

The South Field Detention Basin for the Silver Creek Drain, a project conducted by Camp Dresser & McKee, Ann Arbor, Mich.; the city of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Prein & Newhof and Velting Contractors, recently received the Quality of Life Award from the Michigan chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Getting there

Greiner, Pleasanton, Calif., has been selected by the city of Pleasanton to widen a one-mile stretch of First Street/Stanley Boulevard, which includes a bridge over the Arroyo del Valle.

Clark County, Nev., has installed two BarrierGates, manufactured by Energy Absorption Systems, on the Desert Inn Super Arterial, a stretch of highway connecting the east and west sides of the city through the Las Vegas Strip. The devices open to allow authorized vehicles to cross over the median of a limited access highway and close to form a secure barrier.

The Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission has awarded McCarthy, St. Louis, a $9.4 million contract for construction of a new interchange at Interstates 44 and 270 in St., Louis. The project entails construction of three bridges using 2,295 tons of structural steel and 8,000 cubic yards of concrete.
